The challenge
The primary challenge was to design a lighting network that aligned with the site's ducting infrastructure, minimising road crossings and reducing future disruption to residents. A secondary challenge was to ensure the electrical system could support cable runs of up to 1 km while maintaining safety, voltage performance, and sufficient capacity for future network expansion.
The HDS solution
Low-energy lanterns were selected to maximise energy efficiency while maintaining compliance with the required lighting standards. To meet the council's requirement for a private cable network, slave feeder pillars were incorporated to maintain permissible voltage drop limits while providing flexibility for future network expansion.
The outcome
The design was successfully delivered and approved by the adopting authority. HDS continues to maintain close communication with both the client and the adopting authority, providing ongoing support to help ensure the successful delivery of the project.
